the.witching.hour
The witching hour is not, as some are wont to believe, between the times after the clock strikes midnight and before it strikes again. The REAL witching hour is between 1pm to 2pm (or thereabouts), when everyone else has gone for lunch, and the office is devoid of all human activity. Except my own of course. It's unnerving because you know that any minute now, the air would burst forth with noisy chatter and moving silhouettes out of the corner of one's eye, occupants reclaiming back their rightful space, but yet, the air in its silent stillness, weighs heavy with that anticipation. The constant ticking of time takes on a slow drone in the background, and lures my eyelids to flicker close.
But what is that I hear now? The faint shriekings of the dreaded china twins J&J coagulated into hammers that pound my ears.
Ahh. The respite was short-lived indeed.
